This fresh selection of Chinese works gives another look on the independent production from Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing today, showing various styles and impressions. It consists of 3 programs. Program 1, "Memory and Urban Development" focuses on the effects of the rapid change on all levels in contemporary China and mixes documentary, experimental, video art, fiction. Program 2, "Short Stories : Attitudes and Expressions", deals with the relationships between the individual and the group, between individuals, between men and women. They display a certain attitude and way of thinking that city youngsters adopt. |

Le Lieu Unique in Nantes welcomes Fragments for a special screening on Friday, November the 23rd at 8:30 pm in collaboration with Directors Lounge. Le Lieu Unique. Salon Musique. No admission fee. 外面 - Outside by Wang Wo (2005, 86 mn, vostf) in Nantes (France).
In collaboration with the association « Autour du Monde », the documentary film Outside by Wang Wo will be presented by Fragments on Tuesday 17th April 2007 at the “Pôle Etudiant”, campus du Tertre, University of Nantes (France). No admission fee.

The film shows scenes of daily life in the streets of Beijing that were taken between 2001 and 2005. Thanks to their combination, these trivial scenes constitute an accute observation on the urban Chinese society today, the city, its organization and its development, its implications and the consequences of the social-economic mutations of China, but also the everyday life of ordinary people, the left-side, the migratory workers, the passer-bys, the individuals... |

Spring Festival is coming. In China, it is the time for family reunion and people keep up the tradition of returning home for the New Year celebration, especially the migratory workers who have been away from their hometown all year long struggling for a living in big cities. Xu Xin, independent documentarist, follows these travelers in the congested carriage of a train heading westwards from Shanghai.

- Sars in Beijing by Wang Shiqing (14’, 2003, DV)
In the spring of 2003, Beijing was hit by SARS. The epidemic touched off a public panic and soon, people were fleeing the city in droves. On May 8, 2003 Wang Shiqing goes to Beijing’s West Railway Station to film and interview some of the travelers.

The Festival on Stone by Yang Huilong (2005, 59', doc)
Screened at the 12th Festival of Cinemas and Culture of Asia, Asiexpo, Lyon (France)
November, 10th 2006, venue : University Lyon III, at 12pm30.
There are only 108 residents live on this huge stone. For hundreds of years, people have adapted their way of living on the natural rock, digged aqueduct on it to make the clean water flow to the village. The cooking utensil, tables, stools, beds, pillows, lamp base and other commodities are all made up by stone. The houses are built leaning on the rock as to take cliff as the wall of them. The people of Nashi are living in self-sufficiency.They celebrate Spring Festival in an very traditional way as well.
